How Job Interviewers Think

By Anna Johnson

I recently received an email from a recruitment consultant which provides an important insight into how job interviewers think... and how they perceive YOU, as a job candidate.

Basically, the recruitment consultant said that experienced job interviewers focus mainly on what a job candidate has done in the past, rather than on what he or she "claims" about his or her abilities.

This is based on the view that the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

Here at Insider Job Secrets, we couldn't agree more with that approach.

But if you're a job candidate, how do you impress a job interviewer when your background is just as good - or maybe not quite as good - as another job candidate's background?

Well, we suggest being prepared to explain - if not demonstrate - how you will do the job you're applying for.

Of course, this assumes that you've done your homework, that you fully understand the requirements of the position, and that you really do have the experience, skills, knowledge and talents to do the job.

But if you do, this is a terrific way to impress.

In fact, this is what consultants and external vendors tendering or "pitching" for a company's business do all the time - they don't just rely on past achievements; they also map out a plan for solving a company's problems or helping it capitalize on it's opportunities.

So, as a job candidate, certainly be aware that your past is what a job interviewer will take most into consideration...

But if you want or need an extra edge, also take the opportunity to impress them by articulating how you intend to do the job and achieve the results the employer seeks.
